A legendary collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, producing one of Napa Valley's most iconic wines since 1979.
Opus One represents a singular vision: the marriage of two of the world's great winemaking traditions. Born in 1979 from the partnership of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the estate was founded on a shared belief that Napa Valley could produce wines of equal stature to the finest Bordeaux.
The winery sits on 170 acres in the heart of the Oakville AVA, where the combination of well-drained alluvial soils, moderate temperatures, and the influence of the nearby Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges creates ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties. Every vintage is a single wine: a proprietary blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec.
The estate itself is an architectural landmark designed to echo the harmony of its wine. The semi-circular structure, partially set into the hillside, features a dramatic colonnade and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views of the To Kalon vineyard. Below ground, a vast barrel cellar cradles each vintage as it evolves over 18 months in French oak.
